In plain words
Imagine you have a lot of doors in a house and you want to make sure none of them can be opened by the wrong person. Siemba is like a tool that checks all these doors quickly to see if any of them are unlocked or can be easily broken into. This is important because these doors are actually entry points to sensitive information on the internet, like customer data.
How it actually works
Siemba works under the hood by automatically testing APIs¹ for a specific type of vulnerability called insecure direct object reference (IDOR)². It can test different types of APIs like REST³, GraphQL⁴, and SOAP⁵. This means it checks how these APIs handle requests to make sure they do not expose sensitive data to the wrong people.
What it replaces
Before Siemba, a human tester would have to manually go through each endpoint⁶ of an API, which is like checking each door one by one, and then write a report about any vulnerabilities found. This process was time-consuming and could take days or weeks for a large API. Siemba automates this process, significantly reducing the time it takes to test an API for IDOR vulnerabilities.

- ³ REST
- , A type of API that uses a specific set of rules to make it easy for applications to communicate with each other.
- ⁴ GraphQL
- , A query language for APIs that allows for more flexible and efficient data retrieval.
- ⁵ SOAP
- , A protocol used for exchanging structured information in the implementation of web services.
- ⁶ endpoint
